About me

Hi, I'm Hugo.

I'm a chess player and tutor who loves helping new players discover the game. I play rated chess with the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC) and play regularly online on Chess.com, so I know what it's like to start from the basics and keep improving step by step.

My lessons are built for beginners and kids who want to play casually and have fun. We start with how the pieces move and simple tactics, then build up to opening ideas, checkmate patterns, and thinking a few moves ahead, all at a pace that keeps it enjoyable. The goal isn't memorizing. It's understanding the game well enough that you want to keep playing.
